Mandate and function
The Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital (MMWGH) is a DOH-retained hospital serving the mental health needs of the whole Central Luzon and provinces in the neighboring regions such as Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna. It presently has a license to operate as a custodial psychiatric care with 500-bed capacity, and additional services for type-1 ambulance service provider, secondary clinical laboratory, HIV-testing laboratory, and pharmacy as per LTO No. 03-0150-22-CP-1.
On April 12, 2019, Republic Act No. 11288 was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte that enacted " Increasing the Bed Capacity of the Mariveles Mental Hospital in Mariveles, Bataan from Five Hundred (500) Beds to Seven Hundred (700) Beds Upgrading its Services, to include the Operation of a Level 1 General Ward with One Hundred (100) Bed Capacity, to be known as the Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital and Appropriating Funds Therefore ". With the enactment of RA 11288, the MMWGH is mandated to level-up its psychiatric bed capacity from 500 to 700, establish services for 100-bed level 1 general hospital, and establish a wellness center.
At present, MMWGH is undertaking major steps to upgrade and expand its services such as construction of infrastructure projects, hiring of additional human resource for health, and procurement of medical equipments, among others.
